We gave a presentation at the Massachusetts Educators of English language learners 2018 Conference! The session was “Call Me (Maybe): The Potential of Mobile Phones to Facilitate English Language Learning in High School Students”. Thank you Mary Beth Barilla for presenting with us!
On October 17-18th, we attended the Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE Semifinalist Team Summit. Masako gave a talk about user engagement. It was really nice to join the XPRIZE community. There are lots of possibilities for adult literacy!
We are so excited to announce that Lyriko is a semifinalist in the Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE.
The Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE competition was launched to address the needs of the 36 million American adults with low English literacy. Current programs are place-based and serve only about 2 million adults per year. 109 teams submitted mobile solutions. Lyriko was honored to be chosen as one of 8 semifinalist teams to be tested in 3 cities over a 12 month period for their effectiveness in moving this population’s reading level forward.
Low English literate adults have difficulty navigating things like job applications, health care and tax forms, prescription labels, as well as reading a child a bedtime story, all of which have both social and economic implications for them and their children.
